Alicia has had a life-long interest in Yoga. As a child she accompanied her mother to class at the local community hall and spent hours reading Yoga books kept at her family home. After practising Yoga with various teachers until her 30’s, she began regular classes under the guidance of Janet Stevens. She attended workshops by T.K.V. Desikachar and Donna Farhi and was inspired by Janet to commence teaching.
Drawn to the teachings of Sri Krishnamacharya and T.K.V. Desikachar, she completed her formal 500 hour Diploma of Teacher Training with Michael de Manincor at the Yoga Institute in Cammeray, Sydney and subsequently qualified as a Yoga Therapist with Enlightened Events (745 hour training). Current studies include Pranayama and Meditation with Gary Kraftsow and the American Viniyoga Institute.
Alicia is registered with Yoga Australia as a Level 2 Teacher with 1500+ hours of teaching experience. She is also registered as a Yoga Therapist with Yoga Australia and the Australasian Association of Yoga Therapists. In addition to her Yoga qualifications, Alicia holds a Bachelor of Business Degree, is a certified Personal Trainer and Pilates Instructor.
Prior to moving to the North Coast at the beginning of 2016, Alicia was based in the onsite gym at Optus Head Office in Sydney for 2 years. She commenced teaching Yoga and Pilates at the Happy Mountain Studio in Alstonville and at Surfit in Lennox Head in May 2016. She now teaches Yoga, offers Yoga Therapy sessions and instructs Pilates online only.
The focus of Alicia’s teaching is very much on breath, alignment and stability. Her sessions are designed to increase strength, coordination, mobility and improve balance. Modifications are provided and individuals are encouraged to practise in a way to prevent injury. Classes are suitable for beginners to intermediate. Her classes are welcoming, relaxed and friendly.
Away from teaching, Alicia spends time walking with her dogs on the beach and sourcing, preparing and cooking local, seasonal wholefoods for family and friends.
